Family-run Arizona brewery named among 50 best in US

Mashed released its list of “The Best Brewery In Your State, Hands Down,” and selected a north Scottsdale brewery as Arizona’s top spot.

The story was a celebration of craft brewing in the U.S. According to Mashed, in the colonial era, most breweries made ale. After prohibition, a few producers monopolized beer for decades. Then, beer enthusiasts began producing beer at home. In 1976, Jack McAuliffe’s New Albion Brewing became the first craft brewery and inspired the craft beer movement.

To curate the list, Mashed staff considered “history and local traditions that shape craft beer scene.” They also looked at accolades like medals from the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup, along with local and national mentions from outlets such as USA TODAY.

Pinnacle Brewing Company named best in Arizona

Pinnacle is a family-owned 10-barrel brewery run by Bob and Mary Wilson, with their son Wyatt as head brewer. Bob started home brewing in the 1990s, dreaming of opening a brewery in Hawaii.
