Maricopa County health inspectors cited a metro Phoenix restaurant for four health violations during the week of Jan. 19. Violations included keeping raw foods at unsafe temperatures, improper handwashing and plumbing issues.
A priority violation is a major violation that directly contributes to an increased risk of foodborne illness or injury. If listed in inspection reports, remedies implemented during the inspection are noted.
During the week of Jan. 19, inspectors visited more than 1,000 restaurants and other food-serving facilities in hospitals, senior homes and schools. About 300 restaurants received an “A” rating. See a sampling of the “A”-rated restaurants at the bottom of this article.

- An employee washed their hands but dried them on a cloth towel, which can cause contamination. They rewashed their hands properly during the inspection, and staff was reminded of the correct handwashing steps.
- Raw chicken, beef, sausage, eggs, cheese and other items were stored too warm in a cold unit for more than two hours. All affected food was thrown away.
- The sprayer hose at the three-compartment sink sat too low, which could allow dirty water to flow back into the system. This must be fixed before the next inspection.
- The water line did not have the required valve to prevent contamination of the water supply. This issue must also be corrected before re-inspection.
