PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Valley family is suing a Phoenix-area hospital after their son died hours after being discharged alone in triple-digit heat, despite warnings he was too confused to care for himself.
Kaelen Lachica, who had been battling anorexia for nine years, was showing signs of recovery and rebuilding his life when he was admitted to the hospital in August. But within days, his mental state deteriorated dramatically, according to his parents, Seth and Gayle Lachica.
“I’m sure that he will die if you let him go,” Seth Lachica told hospital staff, making clear he held medical power of attorney and that his son was confused, hallucinating and unable to make his own medical decisions…
