Residents briefly evacuated from high-rise in downtown Phoenix as firefighters investigated smoke

PHOENIX — Several units of the Phoenix Fire Department were dispatched Thursday morning to a high-rise structure in downtown Phoenix for reports of smoke coming from the building.

Multiple fire department vehicles could be seen in the area of Central Avenue and Monroe Street, just a couple of blocks from Phoenix City Hall.

Fire officials on scene said crews responded to reports of smoke on the 34th floor of an apartment building. When crews arrived, they searched several floors and reported finding a “light haze” with no confirmed source…
