Mesa teen allegedly planned to carry out mass casualty incidents at school and mosque, police say

PHOENIX — A 15-year-old Mesa teen is in custody after he allegedly planned a racially motivated attack at a school and a mosque, according to the Mesa Police Department.

The FBI notified Mesa police on Feb. 18 that the teen was making racially motivated online threats to “potentially carry out a mass casualty incident,” police said. The FBI’s Domestic Terrorism Unit had been investigating the teen since January, police said.

Mesa police identified the teen as a student at Dobson High School who had allegedly posted photos online showing tactical gear and firearms, police said. The teen also allegedly made comments in online chat groups expressing intentions to carry out a shooting at a mosque and his school and said he wanted to specifically target Hispanic students, police said…
