Mesa ponders $30M investment in downtown

Arizona State University’s Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center in the downtown’s emerging Arts and Innovation district has helped spur private investment for Mesa. Now the city wants more of the same by expanding the university’s footprint at an estimated cost of over $30 million.

Council last week gave staff the go-ahead to negotiate a lease and cost-share agreement with ASU on the development of its creative technology building at the city-owned post office building, projected at $25 million.

Additional costs include $3.4 million to build a new post office and $5 million for potential public infrastructure improvements…
