Carl Palmer Brings ELP’s “Welcome Back My Friend” Concert back to Arizona

Carl Palmer was the drummer for the power trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). During the 70s they were one of the biggest bands of that decade selling out stadiums and large concert venues. They were even the co-headlining band at California Jam in 1974 along with Deep Purple. In 1974 I was lucky enough to see their preference of “Welcome Back My Friend, To the Show That Never Ends” in Tucson, Arizona. It was a mind-blowing show and one of my favorite concerts. In the 70s I saw ELP each time they came through the Phoenix area and even had front row dead center seats at their “Works” concert in 1978. In recent years with the passing of Kieth Emerson and Greg Lake, Carl has toured with 2 outstanding musicians, Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick.

I 2019 I saw Carl when he toured as part of the Royal Affair Tour. Carl brought his friend, singer Arthur Brown of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Carl was the drummer for Arthur’s band back in the 60s.
