PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Dozens of animals at Sky Sanctuary Rescue are at risk of losing their home after the owners say their landlord is raising the rent to an amount they can’t afford.
Sky Sanctuary Rescue is one of the only pet rescues in the Valley that helps treat animals with severe disabilities. Last week, the landlord told them they would have to either pay a higher rent or buy the property for $1.2 million. Both options are out of reach, the owners say.
Rent increase threatens rescue operations
The sanctuary’s future is now uncertain. Caitlin Harrell, executive director for the sanctuary, says the landlords notified them that they are seeking to sell the property.
“Either they are going to raise our monthly rent to a really high number that we can’t afford unless we can come up to purchase by the end of this lease,” she said…
