Goodyear city council approves e-bike ordinance

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Goodyear city council has approved a new ordinance regulating e‑bikes, motorized bicycles, electric stand‑up scooters and electric miniature scooters.

The new ordinance sets age requirements for different device types, outlines where and how to ride, prohibits unsafe behaviors such as riding against traffic or carrying passengers, and requires helmets for riders under 16, according to the city.

“Keeping our community safe is always our top priority,” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo. “As e-bikes and e-scooters become more common, it’s important that we set clear expectations to protect both riders and those who share our roads and sidewalks. This ordinance gives us the tools to help prevent injuries, reduce collisions and ensure Goodyear remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.”…
