Vista del Rio senior living community recently reopened its doors to the residents of Peoria, following a $2 million remodel to the nearly 50-year-old building. For Executive Director Darrell Collins, the most important measure of success is that the seniors are fond of the new space.
“I hope that they can enjoy nicer surroundings and be comfortable, happy and safe in this environment — I feel like we’re all blessed that we have new things to look forward to here,” Collins said. “It was built in ’78, so it had been very dated and our owners came through, looked at it and decided it was time.”
Vista del Rio’s remodel included changes to the living units themselves, as well as the addition of many new amenities for residents to enjoy. Of its 120 rooms, Collins said that roughly half of the rooms are completed — noting that the team waits for a vacancy to undergo renovation. Carpeting, furniture and various fixtures have been refreshed. The senior living community now features a new game room, Wellness Center and multi-purpose theater. According to Provincial Senior Living Regional Vice President of Operations Nicole Southey, the Wellness Center is outfitted with $30,000 of new gym equipment — including two NuStep, low-impact recumbent cross-trainers, which she said are ideal for the senior population…
