A sweeping law enforcement operation across Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs has ended with 45 arrests, nearly 2 million doses of fentanyl and heroin off the streets, and 54 guns pulled out of circulation. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the results of the monthslong crackdown at a Monday press conference in Pittsburgh.
The initiative brought together 13 local, state, and federal agencies, according to the TribLive report on the announcement. The roster included the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations and Gun Violence Task Force, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Narcotics Enforcement Team, local police from Pittsburgh, Monroeville, Penn Hills, and Turtle Creek, the Allegheny County Housing Authority, Pennsylvania State Police, the FBI, DEA, and ATF, according to the PA Office of Attorney General. Cases from the initiative are set to be prosecuted by both the Allegheny County DA’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The initiative focused on Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs, including investigations in Pittsburgh, Monroeville, Turtle Creek and Penn Hills, per the TribLive account. Investigators confiscated nearly 1.7 million doses of fentanyl and nearly 200,000 doses of heroin, along with 5 kilograms of cocaine, about $150,000 in cash, 54 firearms and six conversion switches. One case involved $35,400 worth of cocaine. Sunday told reporters that big city problems are not only based in big cities.
