Meet Dr. Marc Harrison, the HATCo CEO who wants to buy Summa and transform health care

The doctor behind the venture capital company that wants to buy Summa Health has dedicated much of his career to changing the health care industry.

Dr. Marc Harrison, who leads Health Assurance Transformation Corp. (HATCo), is a Pittsburgh native and pediatric critical care physician who moved into hospital operations while working at the Cleveland Clinic.

Before joining HATCo’s parent company, venture capital firm General Catalyst, Harrison served president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare, a large and respected Utah-based health system that serves the American West. He also was CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, chief of that hospital system’s international business development chief medical operations officer at Cleveland Clinic.

Last year, Harrison published a book, “Possibility Unleashed: Pathbreaking Lessons for Making Change Happen in Your Organization and Beyond.”

In it, he explains how his drive and views to re-shape health care have been influenced by his experiences as a physician, a cancer patient and a father of a son who survived a critical head injury in a fall.
