Butler Co. woman sentenced for embezzling $1.67 million from her job

Erie, Pa ( WJET/WFXP )– A Butler County woman was sentenced in federal court Tuesday after being convicted of embezzling $1.67 million through wire fraud and making false statements on her tax returns.

Constance Stobert, 58, of Connoquenessing Twp. was sentenced to 51 months in prison with four years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab on Jan. 30.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western PA, Stobert stole at least $1,678,893 in company assets to pay for personal purchases while working as a controller for Mechanical Operations Company (MOC) between Jan. 2014 and July 2018.

Court information said Stobert wrote checks from MOC’s business banking accounts to make personal credit card payments and used MOC’s credit cards to withdraw cash at ATMs in Pittsburgh and Las Vegas casinos. She also admitted to filing false tax returns, including the stolen money, between 2016 and 2019 resulting in a $545,990 tax loss.
