Wild to honor Fleury before game against Penguins

ST. PAUL – The Wild are set to host the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow for their final game of the week. But before the puck is dropped, the Wild will take some time to honor the former Penguins goaltender and future Hall of Famer.

Marc-Andre Fleury recently played in his 1,000th career game and later recorded career win number 552 when the future Hall of Fame goaltender shut out the New York Islanders on home ice on January 15th.

The 39-year-old goaltender stopped all 21 shots he faced to cap off his 74th career shutout in his 1,007th career game in that game and has been solid ever since.

“Yeah, it’s amazing. I was talking to some guys over there, ‘It’s so cool to be a part of and be playing with him.’ He’s probably the best guy I’ve ever played with here on the team,” Jonas Brodin said on Fleury after the Islanders game. “He cares about the team, and he’s such a good guy. I’m so happy for him. It’s pretty cool to play with a guy like that.”

It is a nice touch by the Wild to honor Fleury for playing in 1,000 games and recording his 552nd record-setting win before a game against his former team where he played 12 seasons and won three Stanley Cups.
