Mainline Pharmacy announced closures citing ‘economic pressure’ from benefits managers

PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) – Another pharmacy , this time a local chain, has announced the closure of multiple locations across the region.

In a Facebook post Saturday afternoon, Mainline Pharmacy announced the closure of nine of their eleven locations.

The post states that the closure is due to economic pressures from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) explaining that Mainline Pharmacy is receiving less in reimbursements by PBMs than what it costs the pharmacy to purchase medications from wholesalers on over 30% of prescriptions filled. This loss has accounted for over $350,000 already in 2024.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of your local pharmacies. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the impact it may have on you and your loved ones.
