Controlled archery hunting begins this weekend in Pittsburgh parks

Deer hunting season begins in City of Pittsburgh parks this weekend, in a continuing effort to control overpopulation.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said on Thursday that archery-controlled hunts will begin in Frick and Riverview Parks, along with added hunting in additional parks this year, Schenley, Highland and Emerald View Parks on Saturday.

Archery hunting will take place between September 21 – December 14 and then again on December 26 through January 25 (except Sundays).

Deer hunting notice signage has been posted in all of the parks where hunting will take place.

Those at the park should stay on “established trails” and follow all of the park rules, like keeping your dog on a leash while in the park.

50 hunters are authorized and the program is a partnership between the city and the United States Department of Agriculture.
