Russell Wilson injury update: Latest news on Steelers QB’s Week 5 status

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had a quarterback decision to make over the first four games of the 2024 season, as Russell Wilson has been dealing with a calf injury that has put Justin Fields in the starting job.

However, the time might be coming for head coach Mike Tomlin to have to make a decision on whether or not he sticks with Fields or goes back to Wilson, who was named the starter prior to the start of the season.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (H/T Steelers Depot ), Wilson, who is inactive yet again in Week 4, is expected to be fully healthy next week ahead of the Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys .

“My understanding is that time is coming,” Rapoport said. “Russell Wilson is nearing full health, as close to full health as he has been. In fact, if it was a playoff game, if it was a Super Bowl, he would for sure be playing.

“That said, likely after this week, Mike Tomlin will get to a point where Russell Wilson will be healthy enough, have to name a starter, and that is expected, of course, to be Justin Fields.”
