Shuttered Beechview church could be reborn as Mexican market

May 8-A shuttered church in Beechview could become the city’s newest Mexican market.

Pittsburgh’s Zoning Board of Adjustment on Thursday morning heard a proposal from the owners of Las Palmas – an independent Mexican grocery store with two main locations – to turn the empty former Beechview United Presbyterian Church into a hub for retail and food vendors.

Located across the street from the flagship Las Palmas store in Beechview, the vacant church was open for more than 100 years before it closed its doors in January 2024 due to mounting operational costs…
