Today on Feeling Nebby with Houses of Pittsburgh, we’re heading to Pittsburgh’s historic Manchester neighborhood. Leah Hohman Esser, her husband Jason and their four kids, ages 8 to 15, live in a lovingly restored 1875 home. Like many grand homes in the area, it eventually was divided into apartments and then abandoned. It sat vacant for more than 20 years, but Leah and Jason, an engineer, saw the potential. They spent a full year bringing it back to life.
The home has an incredible balance of style and function. The kitchen features a wall of cabinets that hide daily messes so Leah’s antique collection can really shine. A cozy second-floor TV room is tucked away from the rest of the house, while a laundry room is cleverly hidden behind a door in the guest bathroom.
