Fugitive Apprehended in Herminie Home After Day-Long Manhunt Following Escape at Greensburg Ice Cream Shop

After nearly eight hours of eluding law enforcement, fugitive Donald T. Sciulli was apprehended while hiding in a bedroom of a Herminie house Wednesday. The capture ended a day that began with a failed attempt to serve him an arrest warrant at Tastyland, an ice cream shop in North Hempfield. Sciulli, wanted in Allegheny County for strangulation and related charges, fled from authorities into nearby woods, igniting an expansive manhunt that employed K-9s, drones, and a helicopter. Despite their efforts, Sciulli managed to circumvent the police perimeter before being located again later that evening.

According to a report by WPXI, police initially spotted Sciulli as he parked at Tastyland on Route 66 in Greensburg. But as deputies approached to apprehend him, he bolted, running and jumping over an embankment, disappearing from the officers’ grasp. His escape act included leaving his vehicle behind, which was later towed and impounded.

The pursuit continued well into the evening as law enforcement was tipped off that Sciulli had retreated to a house in Herminie, Sewickley. In a statement detailed by TribLIVE, Chief Deputy Sheriff Jennifer Shipley described the situation: “Sheriff’s deputies surrounded it sometime after 8 p.m. and ordered him to surrender,” but Sciulli responded by sequestering himself within a locked upstairs bedroom…
