It’s been just over a year since Gov. Josh Shapiro joined city and county officials in the Cultural District to announce a landmark investment in Downtown Pittsburgh: a $600 million plan to revive the corridor, underpinned by the conversion of aging office towers into new, modern residential buildings.
Now, developers behind several of those transformations are seeking additional state funding to bring projects across the finish line. Many have applied for grants through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance and Capital Program, which supports hundreds of economic development projects across the state each year.
From Grant Street to Smithfield Street, developers plan to create hundreds of new apartment units in the city’s historic office buildings.
