Local dental students made the trip down to Pittsburgh this weekend, both to get some extra practice and help those in need of care.
Thirty-six LECOM dental students participated in the Mission of Mercy, an annual event offering free health care to those who can’t afford it.

Over 9,000 dental procedures were performed on more than 2,000 patients with the help of LECOM students. And for two of those LECOM students, the Mission of Mercy is a win-win, a way to both gain some extra practice and help those who need it.
“It was very fulfilling. Everyone was really kind, even though I know they had waited a long time for the care. I was really impressed with the scale of the event and how organized it was, and everyone was really helpful,” said Anika Scholten, a LECOM dental student.
