Allegheny County announces winter shelter program for homeless

As temperatures drop, Allegheny County has announced its winter shelter plan for the homeless community.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services said Monday that the plan will be in effect from Nov. 15 through April 30.

On Nov. 15, the county will open a winter shelter — which will have 140 beds — in partnership with North Side Partnership Project and Community Family Advocates. The partnership will include free transportation to and from Second Avenue Commons, located Downtown, and the shelter at Community Resource Mall located in North Side, according to a news release…
