Feeling Nebby: Why did a Ben Avon couple paint their whole house black?

Just outside the city limits, the borough of Ben Avon is one of the Pittsburgh area’s most underrated neighborhoods. It’s full of impressive homes that turn heads from the street. On Ohio River Boulevard, there’s one house that we at Houses of Pittsburgh have always wanted to see inside: the all black Italianate-style home that sits along the river. It’s every bit as striking as you’d imagine.

Built in 1873, the home has become an oasis for Amy and Matt Keller. The couple has transformed it over the last 21 years while raising their now-teenage kids there. Amy, a high school art teacher turned counselor, has used the home as her creative outlet. The bold color choice on the outside lets you know this home is going to be a feast for the eyes…
