Pittsburgh Police deliver food to residents in need, fed nearly 5,000 people for Thanksgiving

In Pittsburgh, nearly 5,000 residents received Thanksgiving meals delivered directly to their doors — not by family or delivery services, but by local law enforcement.

This marks over 25 years that the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, alongside other area departments, rotary clubs, and Saint Mary Orthodox Church, have partnered to provide holiday meals to residents in need.

According to our CBS affiliate KDKA, meals are prepared and packaged by volunteers from the rotary clubs and the church before officers distribute them across neighborhoods. Some officers delivered the meals while on duty, and others volunteered their time for the effort.

Many of the residents who received meals are elderly or facing financial challenges. For some, the meal was especially meaningful as they may not have had the ability or resources to cook on their own…
