A couple missed their train and spent the night, connecting two families for generations

It’s only about 7 miles from Carnegie to the coal patch of Treveskyn, just west from Bridgeville.

But back in the early 1900s, many people didn’t own automobiles, especially Eastern Europeans who’d immigrated to the hills of Western Pennsylvania to make a hard living mining coal.

John and Fotina Fedorchak escaped for a brief time to go to a church dance in Carnegie, probably at one of two big Orthodox churches there – Holy Virgin Russian or St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian. They took the train and presumably had a very good time – so good that they lost track of time and missed the last train back…
