A Pittsburgh medic is off the streets after city officials began investigating allegations that they took boxes of medical gloves from a UPMC supply and traded them for pizza at a neighborhood shop.
According to WPXI, the alleged glove-for-pie swaps involved boxes of gloves taken from UPMC and handed over at a local pizzeria. The medic has been removed from active duty while the city’s Office of Municipal Investigations looks into what happened, in a case that lands squarely in the middle of the ongoing scrutiny facing Pittsburgh’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

The city’s Office of Municipal Investigations is responsible for handling complaints and investigations involving possible misconduct by city employees, including EMS workers, according to the agency’s own description. The Office of Municipal Investigations reviews allegations, conducts interviews and fact-finding, and can recommend administrative or other action based on what it uncovers.
