A routine Monday night in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood turned into a life-or-death emergency when a man was shot in the abdomen and rushed into surgery, officials said. First responders reported the victim in critical condition as they raced him from the scene to a hospital operating room.
Zone 5 officers were dispatched to the Mayflower Street area around 7:45 p.m. after a ShotSpotter alert registered six rounds. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from an abdominal gunshot wound and applied a dressing to slow the bleeding before he was taken to a hospital and rushed into surgery. Investigators processed the intersection of Mayflower Street and Emans Way and recovered multiple shell casings from the scene. No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation, according to WPXI.
ShotSpotter And A String Of Recent Gunfire
The ShotSpotter alert that brought officers to Mayflower Street is part of a troubling pattern. The technology has been flagging several shootings in and around Larimer and East Liberty this month, forming a cluster of gunfire that has many neighbors on edge. Local coverage of nearby incidents earlier in March shows police working multiple scenes and collecting evidence in each case, per nearby incidents earlier in March.
