DALLAS (KDAF) – After years of many retailers getting rid of cashier lanes and switching to all self-checkouts, some stores are now walking back on that decision. Kroger and Walmart both implemented widespread self-checkout lanes in stores nationwide starting in 2020 and 2021, in an effort to reduce labor costs. But the retailers are finding that customers might actually prefer a cashier – and having staffed registers can help with cracking down on theft, assisting with purchases, and reviewing receipts.
