Ernest Vanegas Arrested in Hopkins County for Drug Paraphernalia Possession
Hopkins County, TX – Law enforcement officers in Hopkins County arrested Ernest Vanegas , 61, for possession of drug paraphernalia after a routine encounter in a local store parking lot led to the discovery of drug-related items.
According to the Sulphur Springs Police Department , deputies observed Vanegas standing in the parking lot of 817 Gilmer Street near a local business. Officers noted that Vanegas appeared disoriented and was periodically looking at store merchandise. Concerned for his welfare, officers approached and asked if he needed assistance.
During their interaction, Vanegas requested a ride, and officers, per department policy, conducted a consensual pat-down search before transporting him. The search led to the discovery of a glass pipe with burnt residue , suspected to contain methamphetamine.
