DALLAS — Dallas-based Colossal Biosciences recreated the once-extinct dire wolf, the company announced in a press release Wednesday.
The de-extinction company said the successful birth of three dire wolves marks the world’s first successful de-extinction, the company said in a release. The wolves, made famous by the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, were an American canid that have been extinct for more than 12,500 years, the release states.
“Our team took DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old skull and made healthy dire wolf puppies,” said CEO of Colossal Ben Lamm. “It was once said, ‘any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.’ Today, our team gets to unveil some of the magic they are working on and its broader impact on conservation.”…
