DEA warns: One fentanyl pill can be deadly

DALLAS (KDAF) — DEA Laboratory testing indicates that five out of every ten pills seized by the DEA contain a lethal dose of fentanyl — their One Pill Can Kill campaign is focusing on highlighting those dangers.

“Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 100 times more potent than morphine, and 50 times more potent than heroin,” said Joseph Tucker, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Dallas Field Division.

The DEA is seeing counterfeit pills being pressed with fentanyl. These pills are not made in a pharmaceutical setting, which means there’s no quality control, and a lethal dose of fentanyl can be as little as 2 mg — which fits on the tip of a pencil, Tucker said…
