‘I hope I get enough for everybody’: North Texas families and food pantries brace for SNAP uncertainty

LANCASTER, Texas — As uncertainty continues around this month’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, families across North Texas are turning to food pantries at higher rates than before.

Ronny Brown was among those waiting in line on Wednesday at the Catholic Charities Dallas Jan Pruitt Community Pantry in Lancaster. Brown, who lives in Oak Cliff, said he drove across southern Dallas County hoping to bring home enough food for his family of six.

“I hope I get enough for everybody,” Brown said. “I’m doing it for my whole family.”…
