Producer Taylor Sheridan is deviating from his usual Western fare to write a comedy show that will be set in Frisco.
Why it matters: Actor Samuel L. Jackson of “Pulp Fiction” and Marvel films will portray a hitman for New York mobsters, who is trying to start a new life in Frisco.
- Ah, Frisco, the city of master-planned communities and builder-grade homes, a perfect hiding place for a fictional hitman.
Flashback: The show will be a spinoff of “Tulsa King,” a Paramount crime drama that is preparing for its fourth season.
- The spinoff was planned as “NOLA King,” set in New Orleans, but was overhauled to become “Frisco King,” per Deadline.
State of play: The first season will have eight episodes, all written by Sheridan. Filming will begin this month.
- Most of the daily filming will take place in Fort Worth, with one or two days per episode filmed in Frisco, per a Facebook post from Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney.
- And, most of the cast will be locals, including Frisco residents looking for their big break, Cheney said.
- “They did joke nobody knows the direction the script will take until Taylor writes it…even Taylor,” the mayor said in his post.
Between the lines: Frisco ranks 13th on Fortune’s list of best places to live for families and is trying to become more recognizable with PGA Frisco and Universal Kids Resort, slated to open this year…
