Driver hauling bananas arrested for DWI after Plano crash

A semitruck driver hauling a load of bananas through Plano was arrested after a drunken driving crash damaged highway infrastructure Sunday, police said.

About 2:50 a.m. Sunday, March 15, the Plano Police Department and Plano Fire-Rescue responded to a report of an overturned 18-wheeler on northbound U.S. 75 near the Legacy Drive exit.

Investigators believe a passenger vehicle changed lanes in front of the semitruck, causing the driver to overcorrect and leave the highway for the service road, where the truck struck a pole supporting an overhead sign and flipped onto its side…
