A Florida driver was killed Monday afternoon in Whiteford Township after his SUV slammed into the back of a tractor‑trailer on U.S. 23, then spun off into a ditch, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 1:19 p.m. on northbound U.S. 23, just north of U.S. 223 in Monroe County, while traffic was backed up because of a lane closure further north. Emergency crews pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Deputies identified the victim as Paul M. DeVito, 38, of Plantation, Florida.
