A listeria outbreak has struck, claiming two lives and leading to more than 20 hospitalizations. The source of this deadly contamination? Rizo-López Foods is a California-based cheese and dairy company. The U.S. Department of Agriculture also issued a public health alert for certain Amazon kitchen burritos containing Rizo Lopez Foods’ ingredients. The Outbreak Details

Recall Alert: Rizo-López Foods has issued a voluntary recall for over 60 products sold nationwide. These products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream, bearing brand names such as Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market.

The Culprit: DNA typing has pinpointed Rizo-López Foods’ cheese as the cause of this decade-long listeria outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confirmed that this strain of listeria has sickened at least 26 people and tragically claimed two lives.
