According to Florida law , putting lights on your car isn’t illegal, but there are parameters. For example, red, white, and blue lights are prohibited for normal drivers. Flashing lights are also illegal except when using your turn signal or headlights.

Having Christmas lights on your car could cause distracted driving, which is illegal.

“Distracted, driving could result in death. I mean that’s the most important one,” Boynton Beach Police Officer DJ Hall told CBS12 News . “We hate seeing that. Especially during the holiday season, it’s not something we want to see. So anyway, we can alleviate any distracted driving is a big plus.”

If you aren’t careful, you could get something worse than a lump of coal for Christmas: a ticket.

Boynton Beach police said the ticket could cost you over $100.
