Florida man steals identity to get cash at Shamokin Dam credit union

Sunbury, Pa. — A Florida man used a victim’s identity to withdraw nearly $2,000 from a credit union in Northumberland County, police say.

On Nov. 19, Nathaniel McBride, 56, of Fort Lauderdale, went to Service 1st Federal Credit Union in Upper Augusta Township in Sunbury and presented a Washington state ID using the victim’s name.

McBride told the teller he had an account with Olympia Credit Union and wanted to withdraw all the money in the account, according to the affidavit written by Trooper Anthony T. Lorenc of PSP Stonington.

McBride was able to answer all the security questions for the victim’s account and signed the receipt forging the victim’s name. McBride got a total of $1,995 out of the account, Lorenc said.

Several days later, on Nov. 21, McBride was arrested in Delaware for a similar incident. Lorenc matched the picture of McBride provided by the credit union with a picture from the Delaware bank.

Lorenc then reached out to the victim, who told him he didn’t know McBride and didn’t authorize him to take money out of his account, according to the affidavit.
