City of Delray Beach and union at odds over new contract

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Delray Beach officials defend police pay plan amidst an impasse with the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), refuting claims from the union that the City is not investing enough in law enforcement.

On Wednesday, the PBA which represents over 160 police officers in Delray Beach declared an impasse after failing to reach an agreement with the association over wages, retirement benefits, take-home vehicles, and other contract negotiations.

“The Delray Beach Police Department has basically become a training ground for law enforcement agencies in other cities. That’s gross mismanagement and a heavy price to pay for Delray Beach taxpayers and for public safety,” said PBA President John Kazanjian in a news release. “Moving forward, we encourage every Delray Beach resident to join us at the public impasse hearings to demand that the City Commission stop defunding their own police force and start providing them with the wages and benefits they deserve.”…
