Shem Sherrod, a 35-year-old man, has been taken into custody in connection to a murder investigation stemming from last year’s grim discovery of 41-year-old Christopher A. Patterson’s body in a Dania Beach canal. Local law enforcement reported the arrest took place on Wednesday, marking a significant development in a case that had lingered for months without a suspect in custody.
The body of Patterson was found floating near the 4500 block of Southwest 43rd Terrace in Dania Beach on Nov. 1, 2024, initiating the investigation. According to local authorities, after the body was recovered by the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Dive Team, the investigation ultimately led to Sherrod. Local 10 News noted that the Broward Sheriff’s Office identified Sherrod as responsible for Patterson’s murder, occurring near a body of water under an a bridge at 4501 S. State Road 7 in Davie.
Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Claudinne Caro commented on the development, stating, “Through investigative means, detectives identified Sherrod as the suspect.” However, details regarding the motive or method of the killing have yet to be disclosed publicly.
