Miramar Fire Chief Fired After Son Aces Sketchy Entrance Exam

Miramar fire chief Ramon “Ray” Perez has been fired amid allegations of nepotism and interference in the city’s firefighter recruitment process, Miramar officials said.

Perez joined the Miramar Fire Department in 2014, which recognized him a year later as Florida’s Fire Marshal of the Year for his leadership and innovation. Assistant city manager Adam L. Burden officially canned Perez on March 21, 2025, according to a termination letter obtained by New Times through a public records request.
