Deerfield Beach Launches Shady Street Tree Program to Combat Heat and Enhance Aesthetics

To fight rising temperatures and enhance neighborhood aesthetics, Deerfield Beach has introduced the Shady Street Tree Program. This new environmental initiative offers to share the cost of planting trees with single-family homeowners, encouraging residents to join the city in reducing the urban heat island effect. The program provides an affordable way for the community to green their streets while making a lasting environmental impact, according to the city’s website.

To address the rising concern of sweltering summer temperatures and to add a little more green to the grid, Deerfield Beach is offering to cost-share the purchase and professional installation of a 30-45 gallon street tree. According to the official announcement received by Deerfield Beach, homeowners will be required to only shell out half of the tree’s total cost, with the City generously taking care of the rest.

The aesthetic benefits of this endeavor are self-evident, but the real boon lies in the trees’ ability to provide ample shade. The increased leafy canopy aims to bring down local temperatures, transforming the sunbaked asphalt stretches into cooler, more hospitable environs. Those interested in participating need only to fill out an application form, conveniently located on the back of the City’s press release, and pick a tree from the recommended list found in the City’s official Landscape Manual…
