Lantana man arrested for $10K telecom site theft, netting just $120 from stolen copper

LANTANA, Fla. (CBS12) — A Lantana man is accused of using his former employer’s access code to steal copper from a telecom site, causing $10K in damage for just $120 in scrap.

On Wednesday morning, deputies were dispatched to a telecommunications compound in Lantana where a man, later identified as 29-year-old Samuel Tirado, was seen on surveillance exiting the compound with over 20 pounds of copper.

When a business inspector approached Tirado and asked for ID, he told him he worked for the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and provided his driver’s license, according to the criminal probable cause affidavit…
