Driver Hospitalized After Medical Episode Leads to Plunge into Fort Lauderdale Canal

A man was hospitalized after he drove his vehicle into a canal in Fort Lauderdale, in an incident that took place behind a residence near Southwest 20th Street and 27th Terrace yesterday afternoon. WSVN News reported that the driver was returning to his home when a medical episode caused him to lose control and plunge his car into the water, firefighters told the news outlet.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel were quick on the scene to assist, managing to help the man out of the canal one firefighter entered the water to aid the stranded man, after which he was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for care; his current condition has not been made public. Meanwhile, Local 10 News confirmed a different aspect of the incident, noting that firefighters claimed the man sustained minor injuries, which occurred on the 1900 block of Southwest 28th Avenue.
