Miami Police officer mistakenly arrested in 2020 littering case: Broward prosecutors

A Miami Police officer booked into a Broward jail earlier this week in connection with a 2020 littering incident was mistakenly arrested, prosecutors said.

Guillermo Arteaga, 29, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of violating Florida’s litter law over 5 pounds, records show.

Court records showed the incident happened back on April 18, 2020, when an officer spotted him dumping litter on the side of Pembroke Road near U.S. 27 in Broward.

According to a memo from the Broward State Attorney’s Office, Arteaga had been issued a citation by an Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer with an option of paying a fine or appearing in court…
