New Boating Speed Limits Introduced for Intracoastal Waterway Between Oakland Park and Sunrise Boulevards

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has approved a new boating restricted area in Broward County. The zone is within the Intracoastal Waterway, between the Oakland Park Boulevard Bridge and the Sunrise Boulevard Bridge, near Lauderdale Beach. The FWC made this decision at its November meeting to address safety concerns from heavy vessel traffic and congestion in the area.

The new restricted area is located between two existing idle speed no-wake zones and overlaps with a seasonal manatee protection zone. From April 1 to November 14, the speed limit will be 25 mph with a 50-foot slow speed buffer. From November 15 to March 31, the area will be a slow speed zone all day on weekdays and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends and holidays. These rules aim to lower the risk of accidents…
