The Tamarac City Commission has partnered with Food for the Poor and Dare to Care to ship thousands of pounds of donated supplies to Jamaica to support relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
In response to the storm’s destruction, the city coordinated a community-wide collection drive, gathering nonperishable food, bottled water, clothing and hygiene products from residents, businesses and local organizations. According to the city, the donation period has closed with roughly 9,000 pounds of essential items collected.
The supplies will be divided between Food for the Poor and Dare to Care, two organizations working to address both immediate disaster relief needs and longer-term community recovery efforts.
