Borrowed car led Florida woman to victim’s financial info, sparking $4K fraud: PBSO

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Investigators say what began as a favor during a 2022 horse show set off a years-long scheme in which a Loxahatchee woman allegedly found and used another woman’s bank information to make nearly $4,000 in unauthorized payments.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Megan Elizabeth Woods, 45, was arrested Feb. 12 after deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office concluded she repeatedly used the victim’s banking details to pay personal bills, fund hotel stays, and make online purchases between 2022 and 2025.

The victim, who owns an equestrian business near Boynton Beach, told deputies she later discovered her debit card and checkbook were left in the center console of the car Woods borrowed, according to the affidavit…
