Haitian Journalist Carel Pedre Released from ICE Custody After Months of Detention

Chokarella founder reunited with family following dropped domestic battery charges and immigration hearing

Miami, FL – February 28, 2026 Haitian journalist, influencer, and founder of Chokarella, Carel Pedre, was released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody late Friday evening, February 27, 2026, following a court hearing earlier that day in which a judge approved his release on bail. He has since been reunited with his family.

Pedre’s detention began after his initial arrest on December 21, 2025, in Tamarac, Broward County, Florida, on allegations of domestic battery. Florida prosecutors declined to pursue the criminal charges in late January 2026, entering a “decline to prosecute” decision in Broward County court records.
